(For Day One of the Festival of Words #5 hosted by Write Tribe between July 10 and July 16, 2016, I am writing a Haiku. As many of you already know, a Haiku (俳句 high-koo) is a three-line poem with seventeen syllables, written in a 5/7/5 syllable count. They are mainly inspired by an element of nature, a moment of beauty, or another poignant experience and emphasize simplicity, intensity, and directness of expression.
Originally developed by Japanese poets, the form has now been adopted (and adapted) by virtually every modern language, including English. My Haiku is focussed on a brief moment – the hour of sunset!)
On the western sky,
a splash of gold spreads across,
gently stopping by.
(Have you ever tried your hand at Haiku before? How do you find the form? How about sharing something, in case you write them too :))
Very well written Esha, first one itself so crystal clear and apt. Good luck with many more 🙂
Thank you so much, Meenal. Experiments are always great learning moments, isn’t it? More so for those of us who write. Glad you liked this one. Thanks for the great encouragement. Meant a lot, truly!
Haiku, reminds me of +Usha Menon. She is the one who taught me how to write a haiku. and i did try a few. Your attempt is a good one.
I haven’t tried writing a haiku, but I know the 5-7-5 rule. Must try it out soon!
Worth a try I’d say, Mithila! And so much fun 🙂
Beautiful!
Thanks Sheethal!
A beautiful picture with lovely words.
Thanks Upasna!
Words and picture compliment each other so beautifully!
Thank you, Shilpa 🙂
A beautiful Haiku for a lovely image! I’ve never done Haiku’s ever, but feel like trying it out! Good to connect, reminds you of the the A to Z times, isn’t it?
Thanks Kala! Yes, so good to connect on WT this time. The A-Z was great fun, wasn’t it? Haikus are lovely…I’d say worth trying out definitely 🙂
Beautiful…..!
Thanks, Sunaina!
I loved the gently stopping by part… it describes the feel of twilight … how they slowly stop at the horizon and change colors. Beautiful capture
Thank you so much Raj! I love sunsets and what better way than that beautiful hour to inspire a Haiku?!
I love haikus because you can really put so much into 17 little syllables. I didn’t know the history of the haiku so that was nice to learn. Beautiful haiku by the way. 🙂
Thanks a lot Karen:) I agree with you -Haikus do contain a lot of content condensed into those 17 syllables! Glad to see you at Soul Talk!
Beautiful capture and beautiful haiku. A perfect subject.
Thank you Alana! Dusk is a beautiful hour… So pensive and yet so beautiful!
The words complement the capture so aptly. Beautiful!
Thanks, Nabanita. Glad to see you here 🙂
This is lovely! 🙂
Thanks, Payal.
Hey Wonderful Esha. I still can’t get myself to write some Haikus. May be I should give it a try during this week
Thanks, Tina. Haikus are actually great..I definitely think you should give it a try and see for yourself. I love how they are so brief and still so evocative!
Stunning capture. The words go very well.
Thanks, Parul 🙂
