A Captivating July Sky | #SkywatchFriday

What a beautiful quote, right? Who else but Carl Sagan could come up with that!

So, I’m back to posting for #skywatchfriday after nearly two months. It was not a planned break but let’s just say life happened. Blogging took a back seat again. But, it’s never too late, so here I am, sharing a spectacular sky view that we were lucky to witness, a few days back. In the south of the country where I live, the rains have been sporadic. There is flooding in some parts and some parts are experiencing the lowest rainfall in 125 years! That is pretty unpredictable and scary, especially for our farmers whose lives depend upon the seasonal rains and climatic conditions that favour the crops they harvest. Even the cities have very scanty groundwater reserves, and it is not helping that the weather patterns are changing so drastically these days.

Anyways, more on that later. The photo you see is a random click taken on a busy morning. A spread of beautiful fluffy golden clouds had just scattered after a heavy downpour…it couldn’t have looked prettier than this. A bit like the impressionist paintings, really! I had to grab a few photos. This one captured it the best.

As the wind blew, the clouds began to dissipate slowly over the horizon and then gently, everything seemed to merge into the vast open sky. A few minutes later, all that was left in its place were thick, grey luminous clouds, ready to pour with renewed fury all over again. Mother Nature wows us in ways that are truly so unique…it’s amazing how we tend to ignore the magic they bring into our lives.

Seeing this, I was reminded of how we humans destroying the earth’s resources with our insatiable greed, and no matter how often we’ve been warned, we do not seem to care for the consequences that await us in the near future, thanks to our myopic vision and foolhardy actions. Climate warriors are fighting a losing battle every single day and yet, they are trying hard. Very very hard. It’s heartbreaking to see how urbanisation is destroying not just the green cover in our Indian cities and towns but also destroying the wild life, polluting the air and endangering the species that are already diminishing in numbers!

It is really sad to think of the world that we are going to leave behind for our children!
