I am participating in the #BarAThonEdition3 which involves alternate days of blogging from July 2nd, 2018 to July 15th, 2018, based on a theme and a prompt for the day.
After a long day at work, it was Namita’s time to finally unwind. She had been looking forward to this day ever since the boys had announced that they were going to be away for the weekend with their father.
The past couple of months had drained her out and she longed to get away from everything familiar and known. Overworked, tired and exhausted, she so desperately needed to replenish herself again.
“Being a burnt-out mom is not only bad for you, but it’s also bad for the people around you”, Namita mumbled under her breath.
Being a mom was like running a marathon. She could see how tiring it was getting lately—her life was at a point where she could stare at the work awaiting her, where she’d throw her hands in despair, shouting “I quit”. Too much to do and always, too little time for oneself.
That was when she felt like reaching out to that bottle that she had tucked away from prying eyes. Maybe, cracking open that bottle of vino was all that she needed at the end of the day—to drown away the blues that was coming over fast and clouding her mind.
The next morning, as Namita opened her eyes she found herself on the floor, with an empty bottle of Pinot Noir next to her, and a vague recollection of the night before. One too many, as it turned out, but who cared.

I am now inspired to take a break just like Namita!
A different take on the prompt.
Oh, Anagha…I know the feeling! All too familiar dear! Happens to most of us, although we perhaps can think ourselves out of it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I guess she needed it and it’s perfectly OK to let go of never ending tasks and responsibilities. Loved your take on the prompt, Esha!
Oh yes, she did, Shilpa. Some days, we need to let go, I guess. Thanks for stopping by the blog, Shilpa.
I can completely put my wife in this picture and relate to it. Just that she doesn’t drink. Or any working moms in that case. Life can be too tiresome at times.
Loved the line – Being a burnt-out mom is not only bad for you, but it’s also bad for the people around you”
Oh yes, Rohan. I guess all working women who have a lot to handle feel this kind of a pressure that needs some letting out occasionally. That last line comes from the School of Hard Knocks btw. 😉
its ok to let go sometimes.. nothing as soothing as a glass of wine after a tired day and some solitude.. reminds me of my days in Zurich.. loved the flow Esha
O. yes, nothing soothes like a glass of wine. Glad you liked it Akshata. Thank you. 🙂
Lovely narration Esha – made for a quick read ! Loved how you have woven every mom’s anguish into this post. Sigh! I need a good bottle of wine today too – cheers!!
Thanks so much, Shalz. I’m so glad you liked the story. Yes, anguish, hurt and exhaustion probably drains us like nothing else. I wish you get over the tiredness soon, Shalz. Hugs!
Oh yeah! It’s completely okay to empty a bottle and wake up with no recollection of the previous night for moms who sacrifice every waking momwmo of their lives taking care of the family. I need one such night and morning and one more day to relax. 😊
Good story and narration, Esha. 🙂
Thank you so much, Vinitha. I bet there are many moms out there like you and me who could do with a night of getting drunk and letting go every once in a while! I guess as a mom who is on call 24/7, I totally felt that tiredness in me while I was writing the story. Some days that might just be the best thing to do. 🙂
Sometimes it’s ok to have that second copa, or the third… Loved the narration, Esha. Well done.
Thank you so much, Varad. Some days, just the thought of letting go and drowning oneself in a bottle of wine might just make things a little more bearable. Of course, what we think and what we do are two entirely different things. 🙂
I feel for Namita. I guess all moms feel this way sometime or the other. Loved this piece.
Thank you so much, Sonia. Yes, you are right— being a mom 24/7 is not an easy job and some days are harder than the others. I’ve been thinking of doing something like that on days when I struggled to cope with the pressures. Happens, I guess. 🙂
She totally needed that bottle, I tell you! 😉 I like that you brought the prompt to life by a story that is so next door. Good one, Esha and I am happy to see you join.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Parul. Yes, so glad you agreed that she needed it too! If men can drown their angst, why can’t women? I’ve been there Parul and I know although there might be a fine line between thinking of doing something and actually doing it, it can be frightfully close to what can happen to women when they are unable to take it anymore.
Glad she chose to just let go. I’m guessing a lot of us can relate to Namita’s plight 😊 Wonderfully told Esha. ❤️
And so glad you chose to participate. All the very best. You will do great. 🤗
Thank you so much, Natasha. Yes, it seems it isn’t something that is hard to relate to, isn’t it? I have been there too…deliberating upon doing something like that does cross one’s mind at times. Thanks ever so much for your lovely wishes dear. I’m taking it one post at a time, right now, so yes, I’m in! I need all the luck to continue now. 🙂
My good wishes are always with you sweetheart ❤️
