Friday Fictioneers is a weekly challenge set by Rochelle Wisoff Fields to write a 100-word-story in response to a photo prompt.
PHOTO PROMPT© CEAyr
With trepidation in her heart, she walked up the slope and reached the clearing. The giant piece of rock with holes in it suddenly showed up. She stopped right there.
He came, as promised. He had to do it. It would be now or never!
They looked at each other and smiled. Unable to hold her excitement, she drew closer. He pulled out a box, and held out a ring before her. Her heart beat faster. This was the moment.
“What do you think of this?”
“Beautiful!”
“Think she’ll like it?”
She screamed inside. Silence hung suspended between them. Forever.

Oh dear. 🙁 Maybe she’s the “she” and she doesn’t know it. Could be a twist on the twist. 😉
Hmm…not a bad idea! What if there be another story on those lines?
Oh no, she’s bein friend-zoned. Poor woman.Great story.
Thank you! 🙂
SO heartbreaking– all that anticipation, and then such a crushing disappointment.
I’m screaming inside too! You are absolutely a brilliant author! Magnificent – and I rarely use the “M” word about anyone. Awesome!
Thank you so much Nan for your kind words. I am so delighted to hear this. This truly made my day! <3
Dear Esha,
What an insensitive clod. Well done.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thank you so much Rochelle. Your words meant a lot!
I know it’s a sad ending but I have to confess to finding it quite amusing! Nice one.

Thank you Keith! Will check out your story right away!
Whoa!!!! This is dark stuff but done so well!! I found the image very sinister somehow and for me the entire story has taken a horror-esque feel.
One q – do you post every fri or can do it a day later too for the FF?
Thank you so much Shalz! Glad you’re keen on participating. You can still link up. The linky is open through the week. Would love to see you join in with your story. 🙂
Didn’t see that coming! Remarkable twist.
Thank you very much.
Esha, what a story did not see the twist coming. Feeling sad for her 🙁

Thank you so much for your appreciation.
So sad. I was screaming inside too.
Thanks Kelvin. It sure hurts a lot.
What a disaster!
And by the way, you know you’ve written a good story when it pulls that kind of reaction from me 🙂
Thank you so much, Linda for your kind words. I feel so encouraged to hear this from you. 🙂
This just makes me want to smack the dumb guy. What a rotten thing to happen to a nice girl.
Oh yes, he deserves that, doesn’t he?
He’s picked a beautiful rock but now he’d better scram before she picks up a suitable rock.🤕
Oh yes, he deserves that for his callous behaviour.
Poor girl!
Indeed! Thanks for sharing your thought.
Oh no! She must be heartbroken 🙁
She sure is. Glad to hear you here.
Oh nooooo!
Beautifully written, Esha!
Thanks a lot, Moon!
She must have been horrified…or totally clueless about how he feels about her.
That she was, James! If she did, she wouldn’t have come all the way to this rock.
Loves the twist… beautiful story…am so happy that you are writing for FF regularly..😊😊💓💓
Thanks a lot, Tina. Yes, am happy to join in for FF. 🙂
