The Sky From Above | #SkywatchFriday

When you look out of an aeroplane window, the view outside is never the same…the horizon keeps changing, depending on whether the aircraft is on an ascent or descent, so the objects we see are never quite the same, unless the flight is cruising at a regular height.

Three weeks back, while flying to Kochi, I was lucky that I had the window seat to myself. However, despite my best efforts to get on with my book, I found the sights more tempting or rather, enticing, and in the end, I thought it best to put away the book and focus out of the window. As I had my phone handy, I did click a few images of the clouds, but only a handful of them came out clear and sharp.

For today’s SkywatchFriday post, I’m sharing two images. The first is a general view of the horizon and the sky and the second is a view of the Western Ghats. The contours of the hills were very sharp. The ghats continued for a while until they finally disappeared from view..

Interestingly, around this time, I had this funny realisation about myself which made me quite amused—that I still continue to be as excited by the sight of hills, mountains, rivers, oceans and coastlines as I used to, as a child—the thrill and the burst of joy at identifying them, still the same as they used to be decades ago!

An interesting observation struck me about this:

Isn’t it strange how much we change over time?—And yet, we often come to realise in our later years, how much of ourselves we still retain within us, even after decades have passed!

Given that the world is on turmoil right now, my heart goes out to the many innocent lives caught in the frenzy of all the war mongering and the sheer terror of it all.

I know it’s scary…but we can all pray. The collective power of prayers can move mountains and I sincerely hope, the countries caught in this madness will have peace restored soon, and precious lives will be saved and families will be reunited again, and finally arrogance and obstinacy will be replaced by calm, compassion and rationale.

Let us pray for peace and sanity to be given a chance! And while we do that, let us all continue to live in hope and prayers!

  1. I second your prayers. Prayers are definitely needed.

And I to love to sit by the window in planes and see what is happening below.

  2. Beautiful photos from the window seat. Yes, I may not look anything like I looked as a child or young adult, but it’s still me in there!
