Of Blue Skies and White Clouds | #SkywatchFriday

Today, for the SkywatchFriday edition #1 of 2025, I am sharing two glorious sky views from my kitchen window!

I admit the views outside always pull me – it is a distraction when I’m working, but a happy one, if I may say so, especially when I realise that it gives me a much- needed break from the routine and lets me enjoy a few moments of pure uninterrupted bliss.

The stretch of green might not last long. Like in many of our cities, the vacant plots of land in Bangalore are being gradually encroached upon by the builders (and such other people who seem to have a vested interest in developing them and turning them into apartment complexes), I feel these empty spaces give us room to breathe. They are absolutely necessary to society and the environment to co-exist alongside the high rises and independent houses, because we all know how fast we are losing the green cover—almost in the blink of an eye!!

The masses of concrete everywhere only radiate heat and are an eye sore everywhere. We’ve been very subtly bidding goodbye to the Rain trees of Bangalore as they slowly keep diminishing in number, while the metro line continues to grow and the city continues to expand laterally.

So, as long as the green cover stays, lets enjoy them. The blue skies that we still get to see are our solace and comfort, until they too start changing colours and turn into a sad palette of hues—a sharp contrast to what was once known as the ‘garden city’!

Meanwhile, here are a few shots from an early-evening capture!

This is all for today’s edition of #SkywatchFriday. Will be back next week with more sky captures and a story!

Wishing you all a blessed weekend and I hope you take out the time for self care and relaxation, and no matter what, for those who’ve had a busy week, I hope you can grab the precious me-time to put your feet up and enjoy the laid back pace of a weekend break!

Recharge, rejuvenate and renew should be our motto—you, me and everyone we know!

Much love and tons of positive vibes to all.

  1. Wouldn’t that be a lovely park? Here, where it seems like developers are snatching up land and planting ugly boxes for more strip malls and cookie-cutter apartments, our Precinct it creating more and more community parks – some, partly, for flood relief, but all with easy walking paths, trees, wildflowers, and green spaces. No complaints here!

The neighborhood I live in had an ironic name for a while: Vintage Woods. Construction of homes and townhomes stripped or killed the old growth trees, but in the past 25 years or so, much of it has come back. We have an oak in our back yard that has given us “volunteers” and we have planted several of them where we needed them most for shade and beauty. Even took one to my sister in law, a few years ago, to plant in Dallas. Recent storms have been hard on trees, but even the one out front – ripped apart in last summer’s Derecho – seems to be resilient enough to live and put out new branches. With luck, the gash of sky now visible in the canopy will fill in and it will be fine. Cross your fingers!

  2. Beautiful blue sky. I just came back from my visit to India and not once did I see a blue sky. I stayed at Kolkata, Jorhat, nagpur and mumbai and my phone kept indicating that the air quality was unhealthy. This massive construction of flyovers, pollution and expansion of city has dramatically changed our cities. I was very disappointed by how much the environment in Jorhat has changed. These blue skies are a rarity now. I hope Bangalore still maintains its lovely weather and pretty skies.

  3. What stunning skies! The skies in Delhi are rarely so dramatic, bogged down as they are with smog and pollution. I love seeing the sky in all its glory though your beautiful photographs!

  4. I love your photos. I only wish I had a view like that outside my window. But all that I can see is the building opposite mine. I get to enjoy my blue skies through your posts.

  5. I grew up in New York City and know first hand that major city dwellers need their green spaces for their physical and mental health. What a shameful thing that is happening to your home city. Nice sky capture in the second picture. Happy to see you are back at Skywatch, given that you introduced me to this meme years ago. Alana ramblinwitham

    1. So glad to see you join #SkywatchFriday, Alana! You’re right —we need these empty green spaces for our physical and mental health…it is sad that people don’t do enough about ensuring these spaces in our big cities…which is ruining our collective health especially in the metros!
Happy Skywatching, and a blessed weekend to you, Alana.

    1. Thank you for stopping by the blog, Peter! You’re right …it is sad that people who can usually do something to ensure we have the green spaces end up having myopic vision and ruining our cities.
