Finding My Calm in Sky Gazing | #SkywatchFriday

It’s Friday and time for a sky photo again!

Sometimes, I meet people who wonder how I have been able to find such unusually beautiful skies in the city and my answer to them is always the same—maybe, it’s because I spend more way more time watching the sky changing colours than Netflix!

Sky watching is a very calming and comforting experience, and there is always so much drama in the colours that I think it is also very enchanting! That really is the truth as to how my sky photo collection has been growing over the years.

It’s interesting how I actually got into the journey of sky gazing!

Ten years back, we used to live in a rented apartment, not far from our current place. This was in the early years of my sky watching journey…life was busy with a ten year old at home and even though I was a very dedicated mom, whose life was totally wrapped around her child those days, I had started to realize the need to detach from the many roles I’d play during the day and for a while, just be me.

It won’t be wrong to say that in the process of finding a way to reset from a busy day, I also discovered the joys of spending time alone—away from the call of duty and responsibilities. I longed for that space to hang out with myself and simply ‘be’. As an introverted person, I have always loved solitude, but sky watching became much more than just that. It was the first time that I understood what one meant when they said—’be mindful of your thoughts‘. I spent time observing the world around me and of course, this also allowed me the privilege to savour my tea without any distractions or disturbances. It became a ritual initially and at some later point, the ritual became a part of my life.

It was such a beautiful experience watching the sunset sky changing colours—and they were a thousand shades every day, that came, spread across the horizon and vanished somewhere. The birds—the kites especially—would keep circling for a while until it was time for them to disappear into the dark as well…I would watch intently, my thoughts resting on the multitude of things that made up my world. Learning to be mindful opened up many interesting experiences for me.

I often look back on those days and wonder how quickly the years flew by! Life has changed in so many ways (as it should!) and I’m so grateful that sky watching continues to be as much a part of my life now, as it was back then!

Anyway, without further ado, here’s the photo that I’ve been wanting to share for today’s #SkywatchFriday edition… it’s a blast from the past…and also, one of my all-time favourites from the collection.

If you’re stopping by the blog today, it would be nice to know where you are visiting from and I’d also request you to leave a link to your post, so I can return the visit back.

Have a beautiful weekend, and happy skywatching! See you next week again!

  1. “it’s because I spend more way more time watching the sky changing colours than Netflix!” – there lies the sarcasm which I absolutely enjoyed 😀
Your sunset photos are always mesmerizing and I know it is not just the work of the nature but also how you take the shots.

    1. Hehe…I’m quite bemused by your astute observation, Anamika!! 😁 But, that’s also the truth… in a way. Thank you for sharing your thoughts about the photos – it’s very interesting that you see it so differently than most people do. ❤️

    1. Thank you so much – I’ve still a long way to go on that path, to be honest. More of a work-in-progress I guess, but trying to remove distractions and live more mindfully these days.
Thank you for your lovely wishes. Wishing you the same and hope you’re having a relaxed weekend.

  3. That sky is so beautiful. Such a contrast from the dreary white skies my home area usually experiences in winter (like today). Alana ramblinwitham

    1. Thank you, dear Alana! It’s been a cold winter in the city where we live but I know what you mean… truly grateful for the warmth and the sunshine we got!

  4. Thanks for sharing your story. This photo is stunning! I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a beautiful sky. Have a great weekend and take care.
