Farewell – #FridayFictioneers

Friday Fictioneers is a weekly challenge set by Rochelle Wisoff Fields to write a #100wordstory in response to a photo prompt. This week’s photo prompt is by the lady herself!

Haplessly, he watched her slipping away, bit by bit, as days slipped into weeks. Nothing he did could change the course of things. The bubbly woman he loved once, was shriveling before his eyes— sinking into an abyss.

Her sunken eyes said everything.

Every now and then, his anguish gave in, but she remained emotionless. For her, he had long ceased to exist. Today, perhaps he knew the truth. Letting go was always hard but he steeled himself over it.

Leaving the closet door ajar, he left quietly, just as he came, treading over their broken dreams, now lost into oblivion.

  1. Dear Esha,

I’m not sure which is worse, losing a loved one unexpectedly or watching him or her fade before your eyes. You’ve captured the emotions well. Nicely done.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

    1. Thank you so much for your thoughtful words, Rochelle. This is something that worries me often esp when I see loved ones suffer silently and we are unable to help them! One is never able to decide which is the best way to let go.

  2. You have left me curious… Now I really really want to know what must happened. Beautiful storytelling
