Creativity Vs Good Sense | #wordlesswednesday

The chief enemy of creativity is good sense.

And rightly so! It would have made perfect sense to trash these immediately after sharpening the pencils but what if one could make art out of them? Does it go contrary to good sense? Perhaps it does, but then, if you’re an artist would you care?

The spouse certainly didn’t. As you might rightly suspect, we treasure such things at home! Imagination leads us on and we happily follow through. If you’re looking out for the little pleasures of life, you never need to go too far. Creativity, after all, is a choice!

Would you agree or disagree? Do you believe in making room for creativity in your everyday life?

  1. Oh, wow! I love these! Always have…
There is happiness in every little thing. I remember a friend using pencil shavings to create an art work for an advertisement. Her boss loved it a lot, and that idea has stayed with me all these years. And, now I see your hubby has used these so beautifully. Captured them in such a way, one won’t be able to make out what these really are. At least I couldn’t, not at first glance. 😛

  2. Creativity is indeed a choice! And the possibilities with these pencil shavings. What did you guys end up creating? I love the photographs and the texture of the shavings – even that in and of itself is artistically creative!

    1. Absolutely, Shinjini! The possibilities are endless, provided we spare a few minutes to create something beautiful out of the everyday stuff we come across. We actually made a card with the shavings, using them in a decorative floral pattern. Glad to know you liked our artistic endeavour.

    1. Thank you so much, Chandra! It was a last minute thought to grab a few shots of the shavings that got us hooked on this creative activity. Happy to see you stop by and know that you liked them.

    1. How nice is that, Reema! I’d love to see some of your creations if you’d like to share them sometime.

    1. Thank you Jyothi. Happy to know you liked our efforts here. Yes, creativity does need require a lot of complex things. It is the intention to create that matters the most.

    1. Thanks for the appreciation, Raj! I agree perspective is very important. When we were growing up, we were drawn into art and craft because there was a dearth of things to amuse or entertain us other than reading books or playing. Creativity now needs conscious efforts, with gadgets hogging all our attention. Kind of sad to see why we have relegated art only for artists.

  3. I love these creative shots, Esha. When you make something out of nothing it is a pleasure for both eyes and the soul, right?
So glad to be here after a long time. Lots to catch up now. 🙂

    1. Thanks for the appreciation, Vinitha. Happy to know you like them.
So good to see you stop by, after a long time. Can’t wait to catch-up with you. 😊

  4. These pics are very gorgeous and reminds me of the fun we used to have as kids making artwork out of these. I would purposely sharpen my pencils as I loved this colorful whorls- you can imagine that my parents were not amused by this at all 😉

    1. Oh yes, I can totally imagine how any parent would react to that! But, oh, the joy one feels to give in to such fun!! Totally worth it, I guess. I’m glad you liked the pictures, Shalini. So glad to see you stop by the blog.

  5. What an interesting thought! I never looked at it that way before. Food for thought as they say and I shall think about it and see what happens. Not today though because I have a headache to top all headaches. Maybe tomorrow could be a idea day! I’m disabled so I stay home a lot. Something new to do is definitely on my lists of things to do. Thank you & have a wonderful day. Very nice to meet you.

    1. It’s my pleasure to meet you too! Thank you for taking the pain to read my post and share your thoughts despite the headache. I hope it isn’t migraine you suffer from. I’d think it would be best to get some rest and stay away from any kind of screen until you get better, since that is usually what I do. I’d love to see you try something new and creative when ever you are up for it. And please do share them. Thank you so much for your lovely wishes. So kind of you! Look forward to seeing you again on our #ww blog hop.

Hope you’re feeling better by now. Wish you a blessed weekend.
      Much love and hugs

    1. Thank you so much, Gattina! Happy to know you liked them. All worth the efforts taken to photograph them as work of art, I think!

  6. Wow! I couldnt make out that these are pencil shavings. Such gorgeous captures. Agree with the thought you have shared… creativity is all about imagination and inspiration while the good sense is based on logic and rules…

    1. Thank you, Shilpa! So happy to know you liked these. You are spot on about creativity vs good sense. Most would agree with that, I think.

  7. When I was in the primary school I made for the drawing class a small composition using the rest of sharpening the pencils.
The result was an image with flowers! 🙂 Thank you for the reminder!
    Happy WW, Esha!

    1. Oh, did you? That must have been super creative and very pretty!! Glad this reminded you of that piece of art you made. Sometimes, we need a nudge to create something like that, all over again. Thank you very much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts here.

  8. I love that! It took 30 seconds or so to figure out they were shavings. It’s great to see such beautiful creativity with such simple objects.

    1. Thank you very much for your appreciation. Yes, sometimes all it takes is a little bit of creativity and some ingenuity to create art from objects that we usually never think much of.

    1. Thank you, Steve. Glad you say so. I’m sure having one. Thanks again. Glad to see you swinging by.

  9. I’m glad you think so, Sunita! We didn’t have the heart to throw them away, as they looked so pretty, so left them on a tray that way for a few days, until they eventually made their way to the waste bin! So much for art! 🙂

    1. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts! Creative and a lot of fun too! Especially, to see the shapes that formed of the shavings.

  10. There is beauty in simple things ……. its just that we need those eyes, that mind and soul! The pencil shaves look like cute miniature xmas trees with snow on it 🙂 Thought provoking post Esha

    1. Thank you so much, Monika! They do look amazing, don’t they? I didn’t have the heart to throw them but eventually had to. Couldn’t keep them unless we next time we can actually make something out of them. Nice idea, no?

  11. More power to the creative family, who recycles and celebrates life’s little pleasures.

Much love and happy vibes, Esha. <3
