And rightly so! It would have made perfect sense to trash these immediately after sharpening the pencils but what if one could make art out of them? Does it go contrary to good sense? Perhaps it does, but then, if you’re an artist would you care?
The spouse certainly didn’t. As you might rightly suspect, we treasure such things at home! Imagination leads us on and we happily follow through. If you’re looking out for the little pleasures of life, you never need to go too far. Creativity, after all, is a choice!

There is happiness in every little thing. I remember a friend using pencil shavings to create an art work for an advertisement. Her boss loved it a lot, and that idea has stayed with me all these years. And, now I see your hubby has used these so beautifully. Captured them in such a way, one won’t be able to make out what these really are. At least I couldn’t, not at first glance. 😛
The best part of creativity is that it can’t be confined by a definition. Your images say it all!

Creativity is indeed a choice! And the possibilities with these pencil shavings. What did you guys end up creating? I love the photographs and the texture of the shavings – even that in and of itself is artistically creative!
Absolutely, Shinjini! The possibilities are endless, provided we spare a few minutes to create something beautiful out of the everyday stuff we come across. We actually made a card with the shavings, using them in a decorative floral pattern. Glad to know you liked our artistic endeavour.

I remember sticking them on paper and turning them into flowers or the sun. It all depends on the perspective. Very thoughtful post Esha
Thanks for the appreciation, Raj! I agree perspective is very important. When we were growing up, we were drawn into art and craft because there was a dearth of things to amuse or entertain us other than reading books or playing. Creativity now needs conscious efforts, with gadgets hogging all our attention. Kind of sad to see why we have relegated art only for artists.

These pics are very gorgeous and reminds me of the fun we used to have as kids making artwork out of these. I would purposely sharpen my pencils as I loved this colorful whorls- you can imagine that my parents were not amused by this at all 😉

What an interesting thought! I never looked at it that way before. Food for thought as they say and I shall think about it and see what happens. When I was in the primary school I made for the drawing class a small composition using the rest of sharpening the pencils.
