Chipped Inside #Poetry

(Trying a free verse after a long time, today. In the mood, raking up wounds and feeling a little chipped all over again, as I write this.)

We’re all a little chipped inside,

A little crack here, a gaping hole there.

If I tell you, will you listen?

It’s easy to fill in the gaps

And even, perhaps seal in the cracks.

Well, you pry open the wounds,

and pour in some glue,

non-toxic will do, you know,

but only on a slice of wet paper.

That way, they stick well

and slip into fine spaces left behind by

the ravages of time.

Then, gently, close the crack and

let it hold itself firmly,

while you pull yourself together.

Don’t push too hard, lest

the glue spill out and leave you

broken and chipped again.

With time you’ll find,

Your finish is back and polish too,

and nothing is revealed,

and no one knows,

how you broke into a thousand pieces

many moons ago.

  1. So beautiful words, Esha. A little glue is all that is needed, don’t pressure yourself to heal, give it time, and everything will fall into place. That last line was so impressive. I am glad that I took the time to read this poem, Esha. Loved it. 😀

    1. Thanks so much for stopping by, Vinitha. It is so true…pressure is not needed at all, things may take time but they heal or at least we learn to live with the wounds! So happy to see you here today. 🙂

  2. Esha, I am left speechless by your words here!
Oh my, you really ought to bring out that poet hidden within more often!

We are all indeed chipped and cracked in a countless places. But, with a little love and care, and yes, a little glue, we do stick together our broken pieces. And, to add to your poem, a line I read on FB…”We are all broken in some way or the other, but the last time I heard, broken crayons colour well, too!”

    This was so beautiful, Esha!

    1. Thank you so very much, Shilpa. So glad this resonated with you! I think most of can identify with this kind of a state as we’ve all been there. How we deal with it is a different matter altogether. Love that line you quoted about the broken crayons. Our best creations come from our innermost hurts sometimes. I agree with that completely!

    1. Thank you so much, Anagha. I’m glad that my innermost feelings found an expression through a poem that everyone liked and could relate to. As a writer, hearing that from my readers is what makes me happy at the end of the day. Hope you’re having a great day and a great week ahead!

  3. I love the analogy. Specially the part about not pushing too hard. I loved the way you have put those feelings in words. Yes, we all are chipped in someway. What happers is how we cover it and move on.

  4. Beautifully expressed, Esha. It is so reflective of my present state of mind, that I’m floored. Isn’t it awful too how those who done some massive chipping, expect you to hold yourself together and pretend all is well?
    Hugs, my friend.

    1. So glad you thought so, Corinne! Hugs right back to you too! I know these are really tough times for you! I’m going about my normal days but in my mind it’s all there! You won’t believe it, it was like things that were bottled up inside came flowing out in those lines.
