Be Your Own Sunshine
Crestfallen, battle-scarred, and weary,
Numbing the angst-ridden soul.
Seeking comfort in all the wrong places,
Caging joy in the minutes of gold.
After the drudgery of a long day,
when the aching soles seek rest,
Nothing can prove as healing,
as the dawn and the dusk at its best.
That peace of mind is precious,
Don’t look for it in places known.
Let the beauty of a flower so gracious
caress your jaded soul.
All that you ever wanted
All that you ever held dear,
All that your heart is seeking,
Lies within yourself, my dear.
So, keep your face to the Sun,
Let the shadows fall behind,
Chin up, stand tall, arise,
And be your own sunshine!

(Linking up with Reema and Vinay for #WednesdayVerses. Every week, they offer you a prompt to inspire in you a poem. If you wish to join in, check out the rules here. This poem is based on this week’s picture prompt.)
How you feel is in your hands …… so bring your own sunshine, flowers, smile and a happy heart!
Lovely lines Esha
Beautiful and inspiring!
Sometimes, we just need rest and a gentle reminder to look within.
Such a poignant piece! Everything we ever want is within us, indeed.
“All that you ever wanted
All that you ever held dear,
All that your heart is seeking,
Lies within yourself, my dear.”
I simply loved this poem, especially these lines. Thanks for writing on this week’s prompt.
I loved the beauty and the truth of these lines, Esha:
All that you ever wanted
All that you ever held dear,
All that your heart is seeking,
Lies within yourself, my dear.
What a fantastic reminder to us all. Thank you!
I loved how beautifully the verses rhymed. The fourth stanza is my favourite. Something that I should always remember.
I read the poem twice for the beauty of the words. The words sounded music to my ears and made my eyes moist.
Beautiful!
I am so in love with your poetry, Esha! <3
Beautiful!! This line especially resonates with me: “Let the beauty of a flower so gracious / caress your jaded soul.”
Our happiness lies within and it’s futile to chase after or compare with others happiness.
I couldn’t have agreed more. Like they say.. happiness is an inside job. 🙂
Like I said on Reema’s post, I’m wearing bright yellow today and feel like sunshine already 😀
We need to be our own sunshine, alright! No body can take us down then.
