A Vineyard Experience Beyond Wine at the Domaine Sula | #SkywatchFriday

Welcome to the very first edition of #SkywatchFriday for 2026!

Last weekend, the husband suggested we go for a long drive. So we headed out of the city, swapping traffic noise for rustling vines, birdsong, and wide open skies, and grab the perfect opportunity to enjoy our downtime!

Our destination was Domaine Sula, a winery located on the outskirts of Bangalore, where we spent a cosy afternoon, enjoying lunch at their newly refurbished restaurant, followed by a brief tour of the vineyard and a pleasant walk around the distillery.

The tastefully done up floral art decorating the walls around the place was something new that wasn’t there during our earlier visit, nearly a year ago. Despite it being a weekend, the place was not crowded at all. If you’re a Bangalorean, you might be interested to know that Domaine Sula is a perfect place to find your rhythm in an ambience that’s romantic without being indulgent, and peaceful without actually being boring. It’s a great place for couples, families with young kids, pet owners and solo travellers, not forgetting burnt-out professionals, too, because it offers that rare luxury that all city dwellers generally crave: the space to breathe, relax and simply be.

The brand new shop at the entrance houses a large collection of their wines. This time too, we skipped the wine tasting, during our winery tour and instead settled for a good meal. If you are also not into wines, that’s fine too. In fact, you don’t need wine when the food does the pairing for you. The menu at the on-site restaurant included freshly prepared meals, with ample choices to suit every palate. The post-lunch winery walk in the sun was as welcome, as the views of the estate and the beautiful floral wall art everywhere!

I loved the place! Honestly, you don’t need to be a wine lover to fall in love with Domaine Sula, because this vineyard retreat is less about sipping wine and more about slowing time. And the best part is that you don’t need flights, long leaves or elaborate planning. Just a weekend, a short drive, and the willingness to enjoy some quiet moments.

As we made our way to the car park outside the gate, we met an old lady sitting by the side of the road, holding a basket, filled with fragrant white mogras. As she walked up to where our car was parked, her eyes filled with hope and I could catch a glint in them, as if she was going to say something.

I pulled out a 50 rupee note from my purse and handed it to her. She thanked me, and promptly tucked four pretty mogra garlands into my hands, with that warm unforgettable smile, that stayed with me, long after we had driven out of the narrow alley towards the highway, as we headed back home.
