Wordless Wednesday #3

I’m currently travelling and happened to spend an entire day in Mahabalipuram yesterday. We visited a couple of places of tourist interest, mostly rock cut temples and caves, including the famous Shore Temple. More on them later.

Sharing today, a natural wonder that defies gravity!

One of the attractions at Mahabalipuram, Krishna’s ButterBall, is a twenty feet high granite boulder that has been existing for 1200 years. It weighs no less than 250 tonnes and precariously balances itself, on a four-feet base.

This was my moment of awe and wonder and total bewilderment!

Legend goes that even with the might of fourteen elephants, this boulder could not be moved and till date, continues to sit at the edge of the rock, making one wonder how such marvels of nature exist!!

Krishna’s ButterBall located in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu, is a marvel of nature!

  1. Wow, again! I didn’t realise that you are sharing this on your blog. I marveled at the picture on Instagram but this version is much clearer and gives a much better perspective.

  2. It looks so scary, Esha! I would never visit that place, or maybe I will see it from afar. What if the big guy decides to roll down just when I decide to take a closer look at this phenomenal structure?! 😀
