The View Atop Table Mountain

Climb the mountain not to plant your flag, but to embrace the challenge, enjoy the air and behold the view. Climb it so you can see the world, not so the world can see you.

—David McCullough Jr.

The Cableway Café (on the right) teeming with visitors eager to enjoy the gorgeous views atop the Table Mountain—the most dramatic backdrop to Cape Town in South Africa. It is a level plateau, approximately three kilometres long, edged by impressive cliffs. What makes this mountain unique is that it is also home to a large array of mostly endemic fauna and flora.

An apt metaphor for life is the act of climbing a mountain. No matter how ready and prepared we are, we cannot reach the top without being spent, messy, breathless and perhaps, even a wee bit wounded. But, it’s all worth it, isn’t it? In fact, that is the point. Whichever path we’ve chosen, there will always be obstacles and stumbling blocks getting in our way, thwarting our progress. But just like what they say, it’s never about the finish line, but about the journey. It’s how we overcome those very thorns, rocks, and shrubs that block our path to get to where we are headed. It’s how we take that one step after the other, that finally leads us to the top. And the view at the top is priceless. Nobody can take that away from us.

  3. In all aspects of life, the journey is more important than the destination!
Beautiful photo, it is a spectacular mountain.
I really liked David McCullough Jr.’s words, you chose them very well.

Have a great day, dear Esha!

    1. Well, you said it Zina! It is the journey that counts and I’m so glad you liked the views. Table Mountain is indeed spectacular. Those words just spoke to me. I had to use them. So glad they resonated with you.

  4. Wow! I am sure the view must be out of the world ……. the fruit of labour indeed.

The journey is what matters, the journey makes or breaks us, the journey defines us, the journey is our life. We all are winners in the end.

Lovely photo to go with a wonderful quote and thoughts Esha.

The delicate softness of the wildflowers speak aloud the name of your blog …….💐💐

    1. Thank you so much, Monika! So glad you loved the quote and the picture. The journey is important, isn’t it but we often forget that in our quest for the destination. Such is life!!

  5. That view of the Cableway cafe on the rocky cliff is a breathtaking view. The act of climbing a mountain as a metaphor for life is all good but that view, my mind fancie nothing else but that view. I do not have a travelling nerve in me. Travelling makes me exhausted and yet I have a wish to see the world. Not possible, anyone would say. How would they know to have a friend through whose eyes I can see the marvels and the beauty of this world. You keep on exploring, Esha. You keep on going on adventures. You keep on bringing photo memories of all the places you have been to💖
The new header image is refreshing 🙂

    1. It is a very scenic view, Anamika! The climb is tough and we’re all on different ones metaphorically speaking. But, this scenic climb was out of this world. I’d love to share my travel stories as my phone gallery often nudges me to get on a travelogue writing spree and share those photos that are tucked away somewhere. Must bring them out and share, which I will, very soon. That’s a promise. 🙂

P.S. As you know, I’ll be on a break for 2 weeks beginning July 07 and the linkup will be hosted by my lovely friend, Natasha in the meantime. So, do join in, Anamika. We look forward to your thought-provoking photo post once again. 🙂

  6. A very interesting place! And I like the quote about the climbing the mountain.
The journey is always more important than the destination!
Thank you for sharing these image, dear Esha!
Happy WW and all the best!
ps. This a new blog on wp, empty. I used to see if I can comment here.

    1. So glad you liked the metaphor of the journey, Suzana! The journey is so important and yet, we often forget that, in our quest for the destination. This is something that travel has taught me.

Just to let you know I’ll be on a break for 2 weeks beginning July 07 and the linkup will be hosted by my lovely friend, Natasha in the meantime. So, do join in. We look forward to having you again. 🙂
