Resources I Have #WTFOW#6 Day 2 #writebravely

Today is Day 2 of the Write Tribe Festival of Words and the theme today is resources that we have/use.

The term ‘resource‘ is a very wide one. Oxford English Dictionary defines it as “a stock or supply of money, materials, staff, and other assets that can be drawn on by a person or organization in order to function effectively.” In my case, the list of resources is a pretty exhaustive list. I am stumped when I’m asked to pick just one or even a handful! The question arises—on what basis do I choose them here?

Every morning when I wake up, I have a long list of things to do. How successful I am in getting most of this done depends to a great extent on how well I use these resources—Time, being the most important amongst them. Many of us rarely take the time to think about time. Time is not just important— it is also finite.  Like most people, I’m still trying to figure out how to manage my time and finding ways to make the most of what I have.  In the words of William Penn, “Time is what we want most, but what we use worst.”

But time alone is not the only resource that’s important. There are many more in my list that are inextricably bound to my life. Experience tells me that the only chance of functioning well is to be aware of where we are, and what resources are at our disposal. Then, consider that life is time and time is a seed within each one of us. This seed wasn’t meant to remain a seed forever, but rather to become a tree, which is its full potential.

How then are we going to transform a seed into a tree? In other words, how are we going to move from where we are now to become who we were created to be? That’s where our resources come to our rescue and help us to overcome the challenges to function better and be more effective in all that we do.

The image below is a list of the resources that I depend upon, on a daily basis, be it to fulfil a task, do a job, find a solution, or solve a perplexing problem. They are made up of tangible and intangible things, of people, things, machines and thought-processes, that lead me towards light. Now, that’s amazing! Something, which I consciously never really think of, even though in reality, my life depends on it.

How do I know which to use at a given time? It all depends on the nature of the work that needs to get done on a particular day. Accordingly, the priorities of these resources keeps changing. But one thing is certain. They are all essential for helping me function effectively. Am I able to utilise them to the best of my ability? I cannot say an emphatic YES because I’m still a work-in-progress. But being aware certainly helps. I know I’m getting there.

What are some of the resources that you have/use on a regular basis? How happy are you with the way you use them?

  1. The detailing in your post is awesome. I could connect to the part where you spoke about Time the most, loved the part where u made use of the phrase “Time is what we want most, but what we use worst.” 🙂

  2. I love your resources.. Cool idea to draw them into a tree. Yes, the priorities would change according to the tasks in hand, but it’s wonderful to have these resources around. Gives you a peace of mind too

  3. These are the real resources. Good to see your hand writing after a long time, reminded me of the birthday cards you used to gift me in KC.

  4. using time wisely is a very important part of life. 🙂 we have to give part of it to each aspect – friends, family, health, books, writing, work… to not miss out on any is a challenge.

    1. True Vinay! That balancing act is quite a challenge for most of us…pretty much takes a lifetime to crack it. I am juggling so much at the moment … that it feels like I have no life except when I snatch the time to write on the blog! 😊

  5. I love your flow chart Esha! What you say is true Esha, about us not even realizing certain resources we are using unconsciously. If our daily life moves smoothly we need to learn to value existing resources. Be it support systems, tech resources etc. As charged I am guilty of bad utilization of time. Thought-provoking post.

    1. Thank you Kala! We are all sailing in the same boat as far as bad time management is concerned. I wonder why I’m not utilising my time wisely and then, social media just winks at me sometimes ! 😜

  6. Aane wala paal jaane wala hai… beginning of the post reminded me of this song!
And when i checked the image of resources u hv shared… felt that resources are just like our roots… they keep us grounded and nourish us as well!
    Loved every thought expressed!

    1. Thanks for stopping by the blog, Anagha. How very apt…the song you mentioned…the words! Where would I ever be without my resources…and they are many, as you can see! 😀

  7. Time is what we want most & use worst so true Esha! You have beautifully made the chart of your resources and I think most of us can relate to some / most of the resources you mentioned!
