A woman limped across the road in the scorching sun, to reach the temple gates. Outside, the angry mob was ready, armed with sticks, ready to strike.
“Let her go, she’s only asking for alms“, said a man pleading with them. “Hindu or Muslim, what is your faith?“, someone from the crowd thundered, the voice drowning the resounding temple bells.
“Thirsty“, was all she said, before her legs gave in and she collapsed onto the ground.

Sadly, very much the truth of today’s world in our country, is it not? And I hate to say it but I see it has seeped to a generation below me too which makes me worry that I will not live long enough to see a reversal back to humanity.

Thanks a lot Geetika. Any word of encouragement works wonders when one is attempting something new. 🙂
You conveyed a powerful story in a few words, Esha. We need to see beyond religion and other divisions. Thought provoking.
Thank you so much Vinitha. Your words mean a lot to me as I am trying out this new genre of fiction.
I’m honoured Esha. 🙂
🙂
Powerful scene setting; I was in that crowd, and feeling her thirst at the same time.
Thank you Alana. Your words tell me to try more of this form of story-telling 🙂
So brief yet includes a message so powerful… loved this…

How familiar this is? You have made it very powerful in 5 sentences Esha- good one 👌
Thank you Shalini. 🙂
Oh! Kind of feels so real in a country where people can kill each other for religion. So much packed in just 5, Esha. Good one!
Thanks, Parul. 🙂
