Silence, that once I craved,
Now comes to haunt me.
The walls now resound
with laughter and banter,
fights, wails, endless arguments
now wrapped as fond memories.
Some days, I hear voices
across the street, that reminds me
of the morning madness,
the sound of rushing feet
scurrying past the door,
those piles of clothes strewn on the bed,
and damp towels left on the floor;
the dirty socks unattended.
That wasn’t so long ago,
yet, feels like eons,
as I walk down the passage,
staring into empty rooms,
hoping for the phone to ring,
to hear those words I so long for—
“Mom, I’m coming home.”

Well written!
How beautifully you captured the empty nest syndrome, Esha!
Aww…I loved this, Esha! I am sure this is how every mum must feel after her baby has flown the nest. 🙂
Such a beautiful poem, Esha! Loved it!
Thank you so much, Shinjini! 🙂
So precious this one!
Thanks much, Soumya! 😊
Aah! I could relate to each and every word of this beautiful verse as our sonny boy was at boarding school for 7 years. I am so glad that he is back home with us now.
Thanks a lot, Shilpa! I’m so glad it struck a chord in you. I know what’s coming for me so as I penned it , I was imagining what moms of other kids (who live far away from them), go through! It must not be easy, to say the least!
This is beautiful!
Thanks so much, Sunita.
Gosh! This is so touching. Beautiful poem Esha. It reminds me of my mom and how she must have felt when we all left home.
Awww! Thanks so much, Rajlakshmi. Yes, isn’t it strange that after so many years we start wondering how our moms felt in our absence. So glad to hear you liked it.
This is beautiful! Loved how you’ve brought out the emotions so beautifully.
Thanks a lot for the prompt, Reema! So glad you liked it. It’s my very first poem written this year, but certainly not the last. 😊
