Located between the Imperial Palace and Tokyo Station, Marunouchi happens to be one of Japan’s most prestigious business districts today. Historically, during the Edo Period, Marunouchi used to be located in the outer moats of the famous Edo Castle, housing the residences of some of Japan’s most powerful feudal lords. Today, it is home to the headquarters of many of Japan’s most powerful companies from the financial sector and also happens to be one of Japan’s busiest railway stations.
Incidentally, it was our first week in Tokyo and it was a Friday— the day we found ourselves walking out of the beautiful red brick building that houses the Marounochi station, having alighted from one of the most exciting rides on the Shinkansen, (the first of many that we were to take in the coming weeks!) looking around for a spot to rest our tired feet, after a busy day of exploring. One couldn’t miss the glowing sky between the towering office blocks. The colours were changing pretty fast and the glowing orange was soon metamorphosing into a blend of crimson and pink against a blue sky. It was nothing short of magical to sit quietly, watching the endless stream of people walking past, occasionally flipping out their cellphones to grab a quick capture here and there. Here was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to grab a few #skywatchfriday shots in magical Tokyo! How on Earth could I have missed it? Well, I didn’t. 🙂
It was like a phantasmagoria of fleeting hues being reflected across the sky. And there we were, pausing after a long day of exploring Tokyo’s sights and sounds, watching the city skyline melt into a warm glow. What could be better than being a witness to a magical Tokyo sunset sky?
Truly, an unbeatable way to wrap up a busy but an extremely satisfying day!
