Grief | #Writebravely

It is Day 7 of the Write Tribe Festival of Words and I’m bringing you another short poem, a free verse, which is dedicated to my mom’s youngest sister, my aunt, who was more of a friend to me, who still comes to me in my dreams and who lives on in the thoughts of everyone in the family as the most talked about, the most loved and the deeply missed one! To you, dearest Kuttimashi…

We talk of you, even today,

As if you never left at all.

Rooted within, deep in our hearts

as memories, clinging to our souls.

Beyond this chasm, while you roam free,

we live in pain and grieve in silence.

  1. I could so relate with every word that you have penned Esha. Few days back we performed first “Shradhdha” ritual of my eldest aunt who was the Rock of Gibraltar for the entire family.

  2. Lovely tribute to your aunt. Time heals all wounds does not apply here, time teaches us to live with the pain, but the pain remains.

    1. Thank you, Suzy. Yes, the pain always remains but as someone rightly said, resides within us, altering its’ shape.

  3. This is such a touching tribute to your Aunt, Esha. It’s true, we grieve silently and talk about them as if they are around us. Next month it will be 8 years since my dad left us.

    1. Thank you so much, Vinitha! I know it must still be painful for you— missing your dad even after 8 long years because some losses are like that. One can never fill up that vacuum again.
