My Word Of The Year—’Flow’ | #WOTY

New Year arrived well on time this year, but my ‘Word Of The Year’ has been eluding! It has been two weeks already, can’t believe it!

While my mind has pondered over a multitude of words, some fancy, and some completely banal, my conscience has been goading me to get into the right mode to ring in the new—which basically includes everything right from breaking old habits, getting into a fitness routine, dropping that baggage, losing excess weight, and changing set patterns of doing things—all this and more, so I may come up with a brand new version of myself in the New Year. Sounds so like last year. Or the years before that. And, I don’t want that.

Everyone knows this is the time to begin a new chapter in their lives. Many see it as a second chance to get it right although most people forget the list of things as easily and quickly even before the first few weeks of the year has got over. I didn’t make a list this year. Why? Because, last year with the sole exception of an amazing family holiday, I was left with too many unpleasant experiences, that threw me at my wits’ end, tried my patience over and over until I could take it no longer, tested my grit (as if it hasn’t already, over the years!)  and left me tired, sick (physically and mentally, both) burnt out and lost. In the end, I was glad 2018 was finally over, for good! I couldn’t have taken it any more.

So, this year, I decided to go with the ‘flow’ of things. Not that the year has started on a promising note. far from it. But, I’m ready to face it as it comes, and I am prepared this time. No specific plans though and no matter how many curve balls are thrown at me, I am readying myself to be able to handle it smart and to my satisfaction.

Let it come. Let it go. Let it flow.

My thoughts for 2019 are like this— to go with the ‘flow’, to accept what comes my way—to go easy with myself, to go easy on expectations that I set for myself or what others expect of me, to flow with ease through the rough patches and flow through experiences, both happy and bitter, without letting my inner calm be shaken or my emotions trampled upon, to flow in abundance, with inspiration and hope and remain steadfast in my goals of being the best version of myself!

Going with the flow is responding to cues from the universe. When you go with the flow, you’re surfing life force. It’s about wakeful trust and total collaboration with what’s showing up for you.”

That was my WOTY. What’s yours? What all have you planned for this year? How do you wish to take it forward?

  1. Life flows and does so with its own sweet speed, no matter if we want to stay put or no matter if we wish to propel faster. Exemplary word to guide your journey through the year, Esha. Wishing you a smooth flow of life today and always.
Short sighted that I always was, with 40’s I now have hypermetropia. I badly need a correction in my focus not only for my eye sight but for my life too. So, I have chosen Focus as my WOTY 2019

  2. I was nodding my head as I was reading your post. I agree with you 100%. This is how I felt most of 2018. I made lists and nothing spanned out. But this time all my lists point to one thing only. And that is my WOTY. Health. Cheers to a better 2019.

  3. Being prepared to go with the flow is good. It will surely save you some anxieties and surely some surprises. I was also glad 2018 is over as I cancelled 3 holidays 🙁 and I didn’t step out of my hometown at all. This year I will be out and about. Have a happy New Year.

  4. I think going with the flow requires courage of another kind. Sometimes, it is good to go with the flow. At other time, one really needs to change the narrative to break out of unhealthy habits. Wish you more peace and happiness this year, Esha!

  5. Dearest Esha,

I’ve been going back and forth my WOTY. And flow sounds just perfect. Every time I read someone’s post on the WOTY I feel it was written for me. And all the words work for me. Goes to show that there are so many facets of me that i need to work on. Lol!

But at the end of the day I guess that’s a good thing. The only way to grow and evolve is by bringing about productive changes within. I completely believe that our environment is a reflection of ourselves.
What we put out to the universe shows up in our lives as people, challenges, situations.

Letting go and flowing has become my mantra for the last seven- eight days, and it has lent me ample peace and calm.
I’m living each moment, each day as it comes, knowing i’m doing the best I can. And the days I can’t, I just let go and flow.

I really hope 2019 is a better year for all of us. 2018 was quite a b#%@@ I must say. Pardon the language 🙏🏼

Happy tidings and cheers to glorious beginnings my friend. Have a blessed new 2019 and happy blogiversary ♥️🤗

  6. Let it come. Let it go. Let it flow.
This line says it. Going with the flow is pertinent. Any amount of resistence can prove to be taxing for the mind robbing off the peace and calm. I wish you all the best for 2019. Life carries on in its own way with highs and lows and in the midst of all this, may you find your anchor when the flow gets too fast to keep pace with.
